Updating Time:2008-1-6 13:25:10

The governor of North West Frontier Province (NWFP) Ali Jan Muhammad resigned and Owais Ahmad Ghani, incumbent Balochistan governor, has been appointed as NWFP governor in place of him, state-run PTV reported Saturday.

Ali Jan Muhammad has resigned due to his personal reasons, said the PTV report. However, some other local media said he quit because of differences over military operations in the troubled tribal regions.

President Pervez Musharraf has accepted the resignation of Ali Jan Muhammad, according to PTV.

Owais Ahmad Ghani, as the governor of southwestern Balochistan province, was removed on Friday while Balochistan High Court Chief Justice Amanullah Khan Yasinzai will take oath as acting governor on Saturday, local media reported.

The decision of removing governor of Balochistan Owais Ghani was taken at a meeting chaired by Musharraf late Friday night.

The army has been fighting local militants in Swat valley of NWFP with some 20,000 soldiers. The operation in Swat will last till the elimination of militants, according to an army statement.
