After being treated at Pertamina hospital for three days, Indonesian former President Soeharto's health is improving, Acting Director of the hospital, Djoko Sanjoto said on Sunday.
Sanjoto said Soeharto was generally still in a weak condition with a blood pressure reading of 100/50 mmHg. His heart and lung conditions were also improving while excess fluid in his body, particularly in his lung, had also been reduced.
"The laboratory test showed that his hemoglobin level was 8.3 gram percent," the Antara news agency quoted Sanjoto as saying.
He said that doctors successfully improved the health conditions of Soeharto with intensive medical actions, among others the use of an aide device to pump excess fluid out of his body.
When asked on whether Soeharto was still in critical condition, Doctor Djoko Raharjo said the former head of state was still treated at a special room with extra-tight supervision.
"Today, the team of doctors pumped one litter of fluid out of his body so that swelling in his body could be reduced," he said.
Soeharto, 86, was admitted Friday to Pertamina Hospital with swollen intestines, a dangerously low heart rate and anemia.
Soeharto was in 2000 prosecuted in a multimillion dollar corruption case, but based on a recommendation from a presidential team of doctors, the court declared him too ill to stand trial.
After 32 years in power, the former strongman was forced to step down in 1998 in the face of mass protests but many believed his cronies were still exerting an influence to prevent him from being brought to justice.
